Senior Project Estimator - Construction

Position Description:

As a Senior Estimator (SE), you should have a minimum of 5 years of estimating experience and have mastered all the responsibilities of an Estimator. Depending on market sector volume, as a SE you will take the lead on large and complex estimating projects, including tenant work, ground-up construction, healthcare, and light industrial. You must be capable of not only estimating from plans and specifications but provide conceptual estimates based on limited information. The Senior Estimator will utilize conceptual estimating to progress through all stages of estimates: Conceptual, Schematic Design, Design Development, and Construction Documents. This position will also require excellent communication skills to aid in the guidance and mentoring of junior estimators.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Must be able to supervise and mentor estimators and assistant estimators.
  • Take the lead on large and complex estimating projects. including tenant work, ground-up construction, healthcare, and light industrial.
  • Review the work of junior estimators and offer feedback for improved bid proposals.
  • Assists with maintaining the estimating cost database, tracking past productivity rates, and tracking pricing for subcontractors to expedite budget pricing turnaround and to cross-check estimate accuracy.
  • Clarify scope with customers, architects/engineers, and prepare proposal RFIs.
  • Have a strong knowledge of utilized subcontractors and help maintain the database of contractors
  • Able to lead efforts in presenting estimating results to clients
  • Competency in conceptual estimating and ability to with architects and engineers on project parameters.
  • Proficiency with company-selected takeoff and database software.
  • Show full comprehension of the scope review process.
  • Fluent in conceptual and bid-level value engineering
  • Negotiate with a range of professionals to resolve pre-construction issues that arise.
  • Oversee multiple projects.
  • Lead the pre-construction teams and develop estimates off conceptual ideas or drawings
  • Develop and train estimators not only in the process of estimating but also on how to improve profitability.
  • Prepare estimates to meet project goals in coordination with the project management team. (Including best practices for obtaining materials, securing best deals from vendors/subcontractors, and sequencing tasks)
  • Ability to effectively construct estimate structure to meet request for proposal (RFP)
  • Work closely with project manager to maintain up-to-date subcontractor, RFI and contingency logs
  • Keeping track of the latest estimating technology and industry-related techniques through continued education
  • Satisfy customers’ needs to develop repeat business
  • Network with potential clients and vendors
Position Requirements:
  • College Degree – Construction Management/Engineering preferred or related experience
  • 5+ years’ experience with commercial, medical, or industrial construction estimating required.
  • Proven track record of estimating and winning projects
  • Knowledge and experience in managing multi-disciplined projects.
  • Must have excellent leadership, interpersonal, organizational, verbal, written, and follow-up skills.
  • Familiar with clients bidding and management platforms
  • Microsoft office proficiency (including Word and Excel)
  • High attention to detail and accuracy
  • Embrace teamwork with a positive attitude
  • Willingness to learn new skills and has an overall pride in quality of work.
  • Ability to problem solve, create detailed and efficient processes.
  • Understand construction profitability
  • Ability to excel at working with other team members to accomplish company goals.
