Public Works Maintenance Intern

The Village of Arlington Heights Public Works & Engineering Department is seeking twelve summer Public Works Maintenance Interns to join our team. Through this paid internship, you’ll gain real-world experience while contributing to the essential services that keep the Village running smoothly.

As a Public Works Maintenance Intern, you will work alongside experienced professionals and gain exposure to a variety of public works operations, including street maintenance, water distribution, sewer systems, forestry, and facility upkeep. You will perform hands-on tasks such as repairing and maintaining Village streets, sidewalks, landscapes, and water and sewer systems. Additional duties may be assigned, providing you with a well-rounded understanding of municipal operations.

Qualified candidates must be at least 18 years old, enrolled in a higher education or technical program, and hold a valid Illinois driver’s license. This role requires the ability to work outdoors, lift up to 50 pounds, and safely operate motor vehicles and power tools. Interns will work full-time from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, for approximately twelve weeks. The hourly wage for this position starts at $17.00 per hour, depending on experience.
