Jumpstart your law enforcement career with the Arlington Heights Police Department! Are you passionate about serving your community and interested in a law enforcement career?

The Arlington Heights Police Department is accepting applications for Police Apprentices. This paid part-time position offers aspiring sworn law enforcement candidates the opportunity to gain exposure and hands-on experience in law enforcement and develop critical skills to prepare for a successful career.

Over the course of 6 months, Police Apprentices will work 10-20 hours a week and will earn $20-$25 an hour. Police Apprentices will get hands-on experience and exposure to a law enforcement career. This is an excellent opportunity to develop real-world skills and learn directly from professionals in the field. Police Apprentices will have the opportunity to gain experience in various roles, including assisting Police Officers and Public Service Officers with field operations, traffic control at accident scenes or events, working at the Police Information Desk, and supporting administrative tasks. Police Apprentices will also assist with child safety seat inspections, storing property, traffic control, court calls, recruitment, and community special events.

Candidates should be at least 20 years of age, have a high school diploma or equivalent, and be enrolled in or have completed an Associate degree program from an accredited institution OR have served 24 months of honorable active duty in the U.S. Armed Forces OR have served 180 days of active duty in combat recognized by the Department of Defense. A valid Illinois State Driver’s License is required.

This program provides prospective sworn law enforcement candidates hands-on experience to better prepare for the law enforcement officer application and selection process and develop critical skills to prepare for a successful law enforcement career. Qualified Police Apprentices may receive preference points for Arlington Heights entry-level police testing and/or reimbursement for the POWER Test and test preparation materials.
